The authoring experience

Your subject matter experts see the question as the candidate will, while they build it

Item creation in Rogo is a split screen. Authoring controls sit on one side, a live candidate view on the other. Add a stem, drop in an image, set a tolerance or reorder the options, and the mock-up updates as you work. Everything stays visible, so nobody has to save, preview and go back to check.

No training in a question editor

Subject matter experts are recruited for their subject, and the live view lets that expertise go straight in. Most authors write their first usable item in their first session.

See it right at the point of writing

An option list that wraps awkwardly, an image that wants to be larger, a stem that runs past the fold. Authors see and settle all of it as they write, rather than in a review cycle weeks later.

Standard Question Types


Multiple choice and multiple response

Single or multiple correct answers, shuffled options, per-option feedback and the ability to mark some distractors more harshly than others.

Drag and drop

Move labels, values or images into targets on a diagram, table or workflow. Keyboard operable throughout, so it is usable without a mouse.

Ranking and sequencing

Put steps in the correct order, with credit available for partially correct sequences rather than all or nothing.

Well suited to and, where following a procedure in the right order is the competence being tested.

Hotspot and image labelling

Candidates identify a region of an image, a point on a chart or a component in a diagram. Define any number of acceptable areas and their tolerance.

Matching pairs

Link terms to definitions, standards to scenarios or accounts to categories, with optional distractors that pair to nothing.

Numeric entry with tolerance

Accept a range, a number of decimal places or a rounding convention, so a candidate is credited for the right answer however they format it.

Heavily used in, where the working matters as much as the figure.

Short answer and text entry

Free text marked automatically against acceptable answers, synonyms and spelling variants, or routed to a human marker where judgement is needed.

Essay and extended response

A full writing environment with word counts, reference material alongside the response area, and marking against your rubric in Rogo marking.

Currency input

Candidates enter monetary values with the separators, symbols and negative conventions they would use at work, and the marking understands all of them.

Spreadsheet question

A working spreadsheet inside the exam. Candidates lay out calculations as they would in practice, and the marking reads the cells rather than a typed summary.

Financial reports, adaptively marked

Candidates prepare a statement or report, and follow-through marking credits later figures that are correct given an earlier mistake, exactly as a human marker would.

Dialogue simulation

A branching conversation where each choice changes what happens next, so you can assess judgement in a situation rather than recall of a rule.

Rich media in items

Media is part of the question, not decoration around it, and every media item carries its own accessibility settings.

Audio questions

Play a clip once, a set number of times or on demand, with a transcript available where the construct allows it.

Essential to qualifications testing listening.

Video scenarios

Show a situation unfolding, then ask what the candidate would do. Captions and playback limits are set per item.

Widely used in and public safety qualifications, where judgement under pressure is the point.

BSL and visual communication

Deliver the question itself in British Sign Language or another visual language, so a candidate meets the paper in the language they think in.

Custom scoring, per item

Scoring rules are set on the item, so the software follows your marking model rather than the other way round.

Partial credit

Award marks for the parts a candidate got right, weighted differently across response areas where that reflects your standard.

Follow-through marking

Marks stay with the method: later answers are credited as correct given what came before.

Bespoke rules

Negative marking, thresholds, must-pass items and conditional scoring, defined item by item rather than paper-wide.

Evidence for review
